Local Attractions

The area has several attractions to visit while you are enjoying your stay with us.

While your in town you have to stop at some of the local favorits. A day in Battle Lake wouldn't be complete without a stop at Granny's Pantry for a yummy ice cream treat or your favorite candies or their to die for fudge and other confections; then stop by one of our antique shops or downtown businesses; followed by Lunch at Stella's with a great selection of beer and wines everyone wins. A walk by the lake in the evening will be complete with a stop at Stubb's for a great steak or flakey fish.

Parks:
There is a lot happening in the next couple years with our bicycle trails!  By 2013 you will be able to get on the biking/walking path that will be out our front door and bike safely to town where you'll find local shops,  eating establishments, ice cream and much more.  Or take a ride out to Glendalough State Park in a beautiful paved path where you will find archaeological dig sites where evidence of ceremonial activities and long term civilization along the park trail.

If you have come this far on our webpage you must either be a friend or relative, or a person that is a "motel culture" afficianado.  Motel culture is a unique American icon that has a charm of its own.  For the best description of motel culture we recommend the following links:

Motel Culture

A respectful love of Motels is explored here

An exploration of motel signage and neon. We are getting our neon fixed. This is why.

Roadside attraction kitsch would not be complete without a "Huge Being." Our local variant of this species is Chief Wanonga. He is an exact duplicate of the one that stood for years at the Thunderbird Motel in Bloomington. The "bird" was a wellknown DFL waterhole. The Chief is a reference point for our motel, "We are just a block north of Chief Wanonga." His epic grandeur is both serene and surreal.

Another Huge Being is the Big Foot in Vining. It also has a Big Toe. It was donated to the city of Vining -- who took it!
